The Reason this Democratic Party Has Concealed their 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The move from the Democratic National Committee to withhold the public viewing of its own post-election analysis on the last presidential race seems shocking yet not surprising. Averse to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body behaves closer to a PR firm than a political organization committed to cultivating a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture of Conformity

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed within that legacy all through this past year. Releasing such a report would have indicated whether party leaders actually want to encourage open debate regarding the strategic failures that paved the way for the former president to win re-election. However, the committee is acting under the pretense that there's nothing to glean following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a rationale reportedly given for withholding the report.

Key Issues an Analysis Would Have Addressed

An autopsy report worth its salt would confront certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Voter Disengagement: Losing among a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • A Choice to Run: The unwavering decision of a party leader to run again, alongside a last-minute withdrawal, is viewed as denying the party's base the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With Everyday Americans: During a time of inflation, the electoral effort is criticized for accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to challenge the role of profit-seeking.
  • The Foreign Policy Effect: The failure to shift a stance concerning a major international conflict is cited as alienating key demographic groups, especially with youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • A Decline in Youth Support: Polling data indicates a major decline in Democratic support from the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal fits a recurring tendency to avoid uncomfortable facts. It echoes a situation where nearly all elected Democrat in Washington supported a sitting president's insistence on running for re-election until a poor televised debate compelled an exit.

Concurrently, large majorities of the electorate were continually telling researchers that they did not want that candidate to be the nominee.

Financial Questions

A substantive autopsy might also probe matters about financial allocations, including how much money flowed to high-priced advisors and media firms during an electoral effort that managed to spend a staggering sum over a few months.

A Larger Issue

Ultimately, the suppression of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference toward party leaders responsible for a losing national race. The signal to rank-and-file members – which includes millions of dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not have a right to see the lessons party chiefs claim to have learned from a report based on feedback from all states.

An organization unable to honestly assess its mistakes will struggle to break free from the pattern which was so beneficial to the rival party.
